R.J. says: A chimpanzee photographed on Ngamba Island on Lake Victoria, in Uganda while working for the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust. Dreamer was chosen to be included in the Nature's Best Photography Exhibit at the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History in D.C. October 2016 - September 2017, and was featured in Nature's Best Photography Magazine in the fall/winter 2016 edition. I took this photo while lying on the ground, propped up on my elbows. As Eddie the chimp propped the stick against his shoulder that he had been carrying around, and stared off into the distance holding the leaves he had just been eating, I quickly took the shot. We share 98.7% the same DNA with our chimpanzee relatives, and I love how this shot portrays his humanity and depth. Chimpanzees are endangered, and they need our help in securing a future for them in the wild.
